What to Bring to Your First Pistol Class
By Cristian Barron
Signing up for your first pistol class is a big step. Showing up prepared makes the day smoother, safer, and far more productive. Here is exactly what to bring so you can focus on learning instead of scrambling.
The Essentials
A reliable handgun. If you own one, bring it along with any magazines you have. If you do not own a firearm yet, contact us ahead of time. We can help you get set up or discuss options.
Ammunition. Bring more than you think you need. Most fundamentals classes run through several hundred rounds. Check your class details for the exact round count and bring quality range ammo in the correct caliber.
Eye and ear protection. Wraparound safety glasses and either earplugs or electronic ear muffs are required. Electronic muffs are ideal because they protect your hearing while still letting you hear instruction on the line.
A sturdy belt and holster. A quality gun belt and a holster that fully covers the trigger guard are essential. Avoid soft nylon holsters that collapse. A solid kydex holster is a smart investment.
Clothing and Comfort
Dress for the weather and for movement. Closed toe shoes are a must. Avoid low cut shirts, since hot brass has a way of finding exposed skin. Bring a hat with a brim to keep brass off your face.
Hydration matters, especially in Oklahoma heat. Bring water and a few snacks. A full day on the range burns more energy than most people expect.
The Right Mindset
The most important thing you can bring is a willingness to learn. Leave the ego at home. Every shooter, no matter how experienced, has room to improve. Ask questions, follow the safety rules, and trust the process.
